I graduated from Elon University in spring 2002 with a B.S. in Exercise Science. Eager to explore options in the health industry, I interned with several chiropractors and physical therapists and to much dismay, discovered not a patient-centric environment but a model of care based on maximizing insurance reimbursement. At that time, I focused my energies on developing my management style at Gold's Gym International, which proved to be both challenging and rewarding. There, I discovered my true talent for leading diverse groups, building rapport with clients and developing brand reputation in the community. Being a devoted manager, I immersed myself in every aspect of the business, often working 65 or 70 hours per week.

Over time, I built a family and looked towards furthering my education. I chose health care administration because it combined my interests in research, human health and leadership. At this time, I transitioned into a much more structured work environment at Cox Communications as a retention specialist. This position taught me patience, the value of great leadership and perseverance. It also allowed me work/life balance.

During my master's degree, I relocated to southwest Virginia to help aging grandparents. I am currently working for Carilion Clinic, one of the largest medical systems in the state. As a Clinical Resource Associate, my role is to streamline processes and maximize Medicare reimbursements for graduate medical education. During this time, I fully immersed myself in the research process, self-published my work on Scribd and developed a list of future research topics that I am eager to explore.
